I'm not usually in this area, but I stumbled upon this deli by accident. Turns out it was the best mistake ever! Seriously, their pastrami sandwich is incredible – hands down the best. The people there are really great, super friendly, and they make you feel right at home.

6 months ago Ryan Wiebeexplained best how he liked it:

Props to Hobby's for making what is by far the best pastrami I have had and for taking allergies seriously as well. The cook came out and reassured me of their cooking and contamination free process. The pastrami wrap was delicious and the atmosphere was great. The staff was all friendly and helpful as well. And the homemade vanilla coke was amazing!

Stopped by here on my way to the airport and wow what an amazing experience and meal!! If you're ready for some old fashioned service with a modern menu, you are in for a treat! I ordered the chicken soup and it came with a huge matzah ball that was light and fluffy but very filling! The broth was soothing, flavorful, and obviously freshly made! Then, I had the most innovative kanish of my life stuffed with a tremendous meatball, oozing with melted cheese, and a savory sauce that I couldn’t stop dipping! I didn't want the meal to end and can't wait to come back! Thank you to Suzanne, Becky, the chef and team for this amazing experience! KUDOS to all!

Definitely a must try! The pickles they include are really good too I think it’s two different kinds they give you. I will always visit every time I’m in the area now. I’m glad I took the suggestion I saw it suggested everywhere as a great place in the area. Best corn beef and pastrami I’ve ever tasted!

3 months ago Mike Feinwhat can I say about this place?

I met up with some Yankees twitter friends and had a great time. Hobby’s is fun, there is nearby parking, and the classic deli food never fails. Knowing I had a big meal coming in the evening, I went light with an outstanding mushroom barley soup and a perfectly grilled beef hot dog on a toasted bun. And I could “wash it down with a Doctor Brown”, with apologies to the Lovin’ Cohens. We loved talking to the owners, but I never mentioned myself as a NY Rangers fan😂😂. IYKYK. See ya next year! Update June 2025: I LOVE this deli. The owner is hilarious, the food perfection, the staff friendly and professional. I am a sucker for anything mushroom, and the mushroom barley soup did not disappoint. I think next year I will wear a Rangers jersey so I can have the throne in the back. IYKYK.

What our travelers says:

3 months ago Flavia Roxana Apetrei- why does he think this place is on the list?

What a gem! Great pulpo and croquetas de bacalao, really missed these. The bacalao al pil pil was really good too, and the portion was huge. Nice staff and great service, though the best thing was the people we met who recommended us all the good places to eat/shop in the neighborhood.

2 months ago David Banuhow did he rate it?

It’s a good spot everyone was very friendly and the food was good. They also give an inordinate amount of food. I mean I don’t think I single person at our table finished their food. The ambience is nice and overall I like it.

3 months ago Eric Soler- in short, this experience can be described as follows:

From the moment we stepped in, we were enveloped in a warm and inviting atmosphere, largely due to the woman at the bar who exuded an owner's charm and hospitality. Her welcoming demeanor, echoed by the attentive bartenders, set the stage for a delightful dining experience. For lunch, I savored the shrimp in white wine sauce, a dish that was truly delicious and lusciously prepared, perfectly complemented by a side of fluffy rice. The flavors were exquisite, leaving a lasting impression. Our only regret was missing out on the highly acclaimed soup starter, which we've since learned is a house specialty. Rest assured, on our next visit, indulging in their famous soup will be an absolute priority.

1 year ago Ariel Crowderwrote only this about this place:

12/5 recommend this place! Incredibly polite and attentive staff, refilling drinks for you, wrapping your left overs for you, and making sure the food is perfect. Great seafood selection. Delicious homemade bread. Variety of alcoholic beverages to choose from (I enjoyed some Sangria). Best dinner experience in our trip to New York. Will be coming back again when in the area!

1 year ago Renee Salesexplained best how he liked it:

This place is a hidden gem! The service is the best I have ever experienced. This is real food cooked to order made with love. Don't panic when entering lol your view is of the bar. Once you go thru the magical door your jaw will drop from amazement at the cozy and beautiful dinning room. Dessert options are delish. There is something for everyone. Parking is on the side street. There is a lot and then you walk to the corner to enter the restaurant. You can smell the food from a block away.

8. place is occupied by Mompou Tapas Bar & Restaurant

Mompou Tapas Bar & Restaurant
We rate 8.8/10!. This place was visited and rated 1276-times

What our travelers says:

5 months ago Carlos Gdescribed this experience as follows:

Mompu nails the vibe with a sleek, modern dining room, chill back patio, and genuinely friendly staff. The sangria was spot-on, but the papas bravas stole the show—crispy, perfectly seasoned, and utterly delicious. The chicken skewers and house bread with spicy tomato sauce were solid picks. The mussels were just OK, and the tres leches dessert, while clever with its pound-cake base, could’ve used more moisture.

5 months ago Joshua Cookewrote only this for this place:

Came here with some friends and tried many different dishes from the tapas menu. Most of them were very good and we enjoyed the experience. I liked trying things that I normally wouldn't have ordered by myself. The staff was very attentive. Pictured below is the baked potatoes, hangar steak, fried calamari, empanadas, and avocado crab salad.

5 months ago Angel Hsuhow did he rate it?

Cute place in ironbound for tapas and drinks. Love the bar seating area and bartenders are friendly. They have a solid selection of draft beers as well. Just wish they’d update their tapas menu every now and then. Also pricier compared to other places in the area. The tres leches cake though, best I’ve ever had.

8 months ago Nancy Cintronwrote only this about this place:

It had been a while since I made it to Mompou. I was starving after our flight back home and decided to stop for some tapas. As always, Mompou did not disappoint! Our bartender was amazing and every tapas dish was excellent! We splurged and ordered the chocolate trio dessert! AMAZING!!!

1 year ago F'burg Foodiehow did he rate it?

While working in the area a co-worker suggested we try this tapas joint. Went in on a weeknight and they were pretty busy, so be sure to make reservations. Service was really good during our entire stay. The menu is loaded with some really nice, appetizing Spanish dishes. But what impressed me most was that the food was very nicely prepared! After going to another local “Spanish” joint nearby I was very unimpressed with the way they prepared their food and felt that most all places with that outdated exterior and interior were going to be this way… It was refreshing to find this place that has a very updated and beautifully decorated interior and food to match. Bottom line – Definitely worth visiting, but make reservations! Oh, and get the paella!

7. place is occupied by Spanish Tavern

Spanish Tavern
We give 9/10!. This place was visited and rated 1407-times

What our travelers says:

4 months ago Peter Lowrote only this for this place:

We ordered the calamari, octopus and clams casino for apps. All were very good. Calamari crispy and that marinara sauce had a little kick which made it better. octopus was tender and not rubbery. The clams were satisfactory. My daughter ordered chicken and rice and me and my wife order paella Valencia for 2. Entrees were good. My only disappointment was they pushed the "still" water on me which cost $10. All patrons beware as it's a up sell tactic. I hated it cause I was targeted and no other table got screwed.

4 weeks ago Kerrywrote only this about this place:

We came on my birthday for an early dinner. The designated parking lot is perfect, I actually watched the parking antics out the window as we ate 🤣 when you walk in you are in the bar. It seems a gallery of sorts with modern art on the walls small but cozy bar area, enough space for someone to enjoy a meal there. We were seated immediately in the dining room, very pretty atmosphere classic old world art reminiscent of my European grandparents’ dining room art ❤️. I chose this restaurant based on the reviews of the paella, we ordered the paella for two and enjoyed the escarole soup while we waited. The paella was amazing the seafood really does come out perfectly cooked. The meat; chicken and sausage were really good but the amount of meats compared to the seafood seemed less (maybe because it had been said I like seafood more, which there was plenty for both of us). There was plenty to eat and still enough fit each of us to have a full meal the next night. The fresh made potato chips are amazing we wound up taking them home too. The only reason I gave less stars for service was because I had to ask for lemon for my water so many times, there were plenty of servers to attend to all your needs, the service was fine after that was resolved. We both enjoyed the whole experience and plan to return. Thank you for the great birthday dinner.

First off, the staff is amazing!!! Every time I go..amazing! I've been going here for years but this is the first time I dined in because I was with a friend. I love the food especially the patatas, my go to. Drinks amazing, and I love that there are options for the plant based community. Dining in is way better than taking out, which is what I'm used to doing. I highly recommend if you're in this area.

Hailing from the south, I make it a point to find African American Soul Food restaurants when visiting other states. This one was impressive. The fried chicken was outstanding. Newark, you have my appreciation.

Was in NJ from Boston and wanted to find a Black restaurant in the area. Long story short I found Kings. Halal Soulfood!!!! I got Fried Fish, Turkey Chops, Mac and Cheese, Stuffing, and a Beanpie. The Pie was Basic, but the food was a 10. Everything was good! I shared with my wife whom also felt the same way. The staff was also very helpful and friendly which made me feel at home. Everything was fresh and delicious, well seasoned, and tasty. Definitely worth every penny, and price was fair. Thank you! Easy 10 kings on Clinton Ave Nork

An absolute delight and fantastic time. Passed through on recommendation from a family friend and we all went together. They have many halal options for other muslims passing through for a bite. A few things we got were the chicken salad fish meals and mine a deluxe cheeseburger. And an Uptop (what I usually called an Arnold Palmer) the portion sizes for us all were great and hearty and filling and the fries that came with my meal were the perfect fresh and crunchy. Our server Vivian was an absolute delight and helpful. We happen to be there at a time it wasn't extremely packed but still busy. I liked sitting down but by my own habits I definitely would take my meal on the go, there were many beautiful areas around to rest and eat. All in all would love to visit here again when I'm in town.

3 months ago Kim Armstrongdescribed this experience as follows:

The owner is nice and the staff. The fried chicken wasn't good and expensive. The potato salad most people love. The banquet hall is being renovated, so I had to give it a low rating. Overall, this is a good place that doesn't serve pork.

1 year ago Aminul Rouf: it is necessary to add to this place:

Overall 8/10 Food is a 7/10 As a halal joint of course i give this a 10/10. But to just give it a 10/10 because it’s halal and not be completely honest is so biased and not fair. I had the diva egg wrap (egg white, grilled chicken, lettuce and tomato), chicken tender wrap with fries, home fries with grilled onions and peppers, and i forgot the name of the last one (drenched?) gravy turkey chops which was the recommendation of the waitress. With a side of coleslaw corn bread (corn muffin lol) and mac and cheese. Diva wrap was 8.5/10 Fries 7/10 (a little too salty) Tender wrap 8/10 Turkey 5/10 Corn bread (corn muffin) 5/10 Mac and cheese 7/10 Cole slaw 5.5/10 (too many large onion pieces) Service and our waitress was absolutely wonderful. So pleasant, friendly and caring. Would definitely say to come by and try their food. I would totally come by again

Very fancy restaurant. There is dress code required. The restaurant is much bigger than it seems on the outside. The food was very good. Fresh vegetables and the meat is cooked to perfection. Portions are reasonably sized and the servers are very professional.

I have been to this restaurant many years earlier and it was always great. I was stuck in Newark because my flight was canceled, so I decided to see if it was still good. Wow! The service was excellent as always. My filet Mignon wrapped in bacon was amazing! The mushrooms delicious. What a great experience. The manager came by and checked on the experience. Definitely recommend!

I was in town and was told Ferry Street had the best selection of food in the Ironbound area of Newark. My friends and I chose outdoor seating. I had the Parmesan chicken. It was delicious. My companions had stuffed lobster, and steak. The sangria’s are a must. Jose was our server. He was patient and very attentive. Please stop in if you’re in Newark.

3 months ago Myrna Morales: it is necessary to add to this place:

Adega Grill Is FANTASTIC. Beatifully decorated, old school impeccable service, our server was AMAZING. And the food was so fresh and so good. I felt like I was in Portugal. We went for Father’s Day, last minute, an hour before kitchen closed and the experience, the food, the passion fruit sangria and our adorable, Portuguese server, made our night. Will be back very soon.

4 months ago Chuck Whigham- in short, this experience can be described as follows:

We had our 40th Reunion for high school i.e. Saint Benedict's Preparatory School in Newark, New Jersey. Adega Grill was selected by the alumni advisory and event planning board. Adega Grill is a good local and non-chain restaurant located in the extremely busy Iron Bound section of Newark. Adega Grill is an upscale, casual and cozy authentic Portuguese and Spanish Restaurant with great food and drinks. They have a menu that boast fresh meats and seafood dishes with something for everyone. You can have a delicious and fresh meal coupled with warm, friendly, and very attentive customer service. The establishment is a really popular place with the locals and it is definitely a "Refreshing Change from the Chains!" It can get very busy in there so arrive early and you won't be disappointed. Upon entering, I was immediately greeted by two hosts whom directed me upstairs where the private affair was occurring. Both of the event hosts were very friendly, pleasant, professional, and had a genuine smile. It was a Friday around 06:00 PM and I was immediately offered White or Red Sangria which was included with our dinner buffet. There was an open cash bar were you could order whatever you desired. The tables and seating was comfortable and very organized. The facility has a fireplace, unique restroom accommodations, and a unique rooftop setting. All of the team members at Adega Grill smiled and were very welcoming. Everything was absolutely delicious, kept hot, and the various buffet items were prepared and cooked to perfection. All of the meat and others items were very tasty and not salty as many Portuguese operated business products can be. For dessert, we had our choice of flan or cheesecake and I selected cheesecake with coffee. All of the servers very attentive, friendly, efficient, and happy to help! In short, the great food and awesome customer service made for an awesome group dinning experience! I will definitely be returning to bring my wife for dinner when we are in the Newark, New Jersey area to try some of their other appetizers, entrees, specials, and dessert.

What our travelers says:

8 months ago Warren Familysaid the following about this gem:

Great place to be with a nice atmosphere. Had great experience, but there is some improvement that's needed. I spent almost 30 to 45 mins on the food line waiting for drinks, which wasn't cool .When crowded, there is not much seating. When you bring your kids and they need support skating, get there early so you can grab a( white skate bar) because they run out quickly, and it's very hard to get one Nice music but need to be Kid Appropriate during family hours otherwise 8/10 Ps PLEASE make sure you wash or sanitize your hands and child hands because we caught a bug from touching and grabbing the walls and grabbing poles, which everybody touches when holding on

4 months ago RogueMadeMe: it is necessary to add to this place:

The location is located in the middle of the park which was confusing to find. Hey have tons of parking. The place is spacious and has lot of lockers to put your stuff. The dj and music was pretty good. There were a lot of police at the end which was odd and they made sure everyone left. There is a QR code and waiver you have to sign to enter and the cost to skate is pretty affordable. I had my own skates but the public ones seemed cute they are yellow. There was a wide range of teens and adults and ts very child friendly for birthday events and stuff.

Wonderful roller rink. Excellent music, vibes, and the staff was highly professional. I’ll definitely return soon!

7 months ago Crystal Caraballowhat can I say about this place?

I recently hosted my daughter’s birthday party here on March 1st and, unfortunately, the experience was highly disappointing. For the price paid, the level of service and amenities provided were far below expectations. There were insufficient supplies for the food I ordered, including a lack of basic necessities like forks and utensils for the cake— which I was required to bring myself. Shockingly, they did not even provide a cake cutter, which I also did not have on hand. Additionally, there were not enough cups for guests, leading to constant trips back and forth to the concession stand just to ensure everyone had what they needed. The party host was inattentive and absent for extended periods, making the event feel disorganized. Even something as simple as gathering for the birthday song took longer than expected due to the lack of coordination. Furthermore, the party area was poorly lit, making it difficult to see anything in our section. Overall, I would not recommend hosting a birthday party here, as the experience felt unorganized, frustrating, and not worth the cost. However, if you’re just looking to visit for casual entertainment, it may still be an enjoyable option. But for a special celebration? Absolutely not.

Late post. Heard good things about this place and finally a group of 6 of us made it there for dinner a month ago. Food was decent especially the Garlic Shrimp and Oxtails. But we were not impressed on the Paella as we had better at other places. Overall not bad, but think it’s a little over-hyped.

Loved the food and service! Servers were very loving and attentive! I got the mixed grilled meat platter, steak was good as well as the pork and chicken. Only thing I didn’t like was the chorizo. Loved that they had an open buffet. I had the fried chicken, fried fish fillet, salad, croutons, and fried sweet plantains. The cheese and olives were nice and fresh too. They had Chimichurri sauce for the meats, I completely forgot about it but it looked good! I never had Brazilian food before so it was exciting to try another culture’s food. Their passion fruit mousse was so smooth and delicious. The passion fruit virgin mojito was amazing as well, it was perfectly sour and love that they used freshly squeezed lime juice! Would love to go back and try more menu items! The restaurant is very family friendly I feel like it would be nice to celebrate a birthday here.❤️

Good food and healthy portions. The salad bar had a number of choices from salads to some meats/ fish. The appetizers came in large portions. We had calamari and Brazilian fried chicken. Tasty. The seating is well spaced and not cramped like some places. The servers were exceptional. Attentive and very pleasant. Highly recommend. BUT THE PARKING CAN BE A PROBLEM, depending on the time you go.

Very lively in here. First time I went to the bar. I usually get the rodizio. Food outside of rodizio pretty good. Had a caparihna got so lit so fast. It was pretty good. Service was good too. I’d come again

3 months ago InkedAndAccuratehow did he rate it?

I had a solid experience at Brasilia Grill’s rodizio, earning it a well-deserved 4 stars. The vibe was chill and relaxed, especially since I went around 5pm on a Monday when it wasn’t crowded at all—perfect for a low-key dinner. The meats were the highlight, with the lamb stealing the show; it was tender, flavorful, and cooked just right. The variety of cuts was impressive, and the servers kept them coming at a nice pace. My only gripe was the salad bar. A lot of the vegetables, like the asparagus, were cold—almost frozen, which was a bummer since I prefer them hot. It wasn’t a dealbreaker, but it kept the experience from being a full 5 stars. Parking was convenient right next door, just a heads-up to tip the security guard. Overall, a great spot for meat lovers looking for a laid-back rodizio experience, and I’d definitely go back.

2 months ago Manuel Velizhow did he rate it?

One of my favorite spots for steak and other grilled meats. If you’re hungry you can order the Rodizio which is all you can eat. The waiters bring fresh cuts of different meats right to your table. When ordered you also have access to the salad buffet. I had a plate of Picanha & skirt steak with rice, beans, and fried bananas. The capirinhas are freshly prepared at the bar. People come alone and eat at the bar or come with the entire family to celebrate a birthday at the dinning room. Overall it’s a great place to enjoy Brazilian steak and food.

Have taken my work team here twice. Both times we were extremely pleased with the service and the food. Upscale dining at relatively affordable pricing. Everyone loved their various paellas (especially the black rice paella). Beef and cheese was delightful. Chicken Marsala delicious and done very well. Desserts was also top notch ... Pistachio creme brulee is a must try.

4 weeks ago Joey Huddleston- in short, this experience can be described as follows:

I can't think of the last time I went to a restaurant that was this excellent a value. From the start, they had a complimentary bread basket, an olive platter, and GOOD house salads for both of us (with great fresh vegetables). Again, complimentary. With dinner they included 3 generous complimentary sides: house made potato chips, green beans, and rice. For the entree I ordered a rack of lamb, and it was perfectly prepared. I almost cried. My wife got a vegetarian paella. After we ordered and finished our dessert, they brought out complimentary churros with chocolate dip, which were also great. The decor and vibe of the place were also so enjoyable. It's just a Newark gem. Big cigar racks in the back, classic decor, just a classy, homey joint. I loved it. What a great spot and I'll definitely recommend it to everyone.

1 month ago Marcelle M (Traveling Miles)said the following about this gem:

Excellent experience, food and drink. Take note that when people say they are very generous with portion size, it’s very true. We don’t regret ordering a ceviche (octopus, fish, shrimp) but after having salads (fresh and great vinaigrette), bread and olives we almost didn’t need our paella primavera (spring). Took at least half of it home. So many waiters/waitresses so service was fast and attentive. Will come again, and so should you!

2 months ago Rodney Galeanoexplained best how he liked it:

Came with a group of four and shared the stuffed mushrooms, ceviche, and shishito peppers to start — all were delicious. We had the paella Valenciana and ribeye steak for our mains, and it was more than enough. The meal started with a house salad, which was a nice touch. Everything was flavorful, and we all loved it. The flan and churros for dessert were exceptional. Service was great, and they even have a separate cigar lounge. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!
