I have always been an absolute nerd when it comes to museums, and this one did not disappoint. the collection of painting and statues they have was expansive and so wonderfully displayed. the building itself was gorgeous like a work of art alone. they had a leonardo da vinci painting on display when we went and it was such an interesting experience to be able to see so many pieces of history on display. the paintings and furniture were restored so well and I am waiting for the day i get to come back

The National Gallery of Art has a stunning permanent collection spread across multiple floors. The main building alone contains so many rooms and artworks that it is simply impossible to fully see and absorb the scale and richness of the collection in just one visit. The number of paintings and their historical significance are truly impressive. We were less impressed by the modern exhibition. Although it was recommended by guides and staff at the entrance—especially as a starting point for families with children—we personally found it unengaging and difficult to understand. For us, it lacked depth and meaning, and we felt that time could have been better spent elsewhere. We came specifically to experience the permanent collection and to see classical masterpieces that are 300–400 years old or even older. If you truly value traditional, timeless art, I would strongly recommend focusing your visit on the permanent exhibitions. That said, we will definitely return, as we were unable to see all the exhibits during our visit. The gallery is vast, and there is so much more to explore and appreciate.

I visited the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, DC on a Saturday in late September 2025, expecting a quick walk-through, and ended up staying for hours, completely blown away. The National Museum of American History feels less like a museum and more like a living memory of the country. Crowded halls, families whispering in awe, the quiet hum of air conditioning around the Star-Spangled Banner -it all adds up to something unexpectedly moving. The exhibits unfold like a collage of America’s contradictions and dreams: Lincoln’s top hat, the Greensboro lunch counter, Prince’s yellow guitar, and the Ruby Slippers all share space as if to say history isn’t neat — it’s layered, unpredictable, and full of feeling. Julia Child’s kitchen was so neatly organised, it was such a treat seeing it. What struck me most was how ordinary objects,a stool, a glove, a flag ,can hold such enormous weight. It’s free, but it feels priceless. Go with time, and let yourself get lost. You’ll leave with a sense that history isn’t behind us , it’s still unfolding, quietly, in the everyday. The museum sits right on the National Mall, at 14th Street and Constitution Avenue NW. The closest Metro stop is Smithsonian (Blue, Orange, or Silver line), just a short walk away. It’s open daily from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and weekends can get busy — so go early if you can. Entry is free, and there’s a small café inside if you need a break between exhibits.

We visited the Smithsonian National Museum of American History with friends from Virginia, Atlanta, Tennessee, and Maryland, and it was such an incredible experience. The exhibits provided powerful insight into our nation’s past — both the struggles and the triumphs. I truly appreciated how many displays highlighted Black excellence and resilience, showing the strength, creativity, and impact of Black Americans throughout history. Although the current administration is reportedly planning to remove some of these historical facts, I’m grateful we were able to experience the exhibits in their full form before any major changes. This museum serves as a reminder of how important it is to protect and preserve all of our history.

I very much enjoyed this museum. Very insightful and great to spend a couple of hours in just seeing the view of America by Americans and being informed and entertained simultaneously. The staff are exceptional and the areas are very well laid out and easy to move around. I was fortunate to go when there were not many other visitors so my experience was even better without crowds. It’s hard to believe this zoo is completely free, especially considering the quality of the exhibits and the animals you can see here. The giant pandas alone are worth the visit — seeing them up close was a highlight and something you don’t get in many places. The zoo is fairly large and built on a hill, so be prepared for some walking, but the paths are well laid out and easy to follow. Many enclosures feel spacious and thoughtfully designed, and it never felt overly crowded when I visited on a weekday. Overall, this is an excellent stop in DC whether you’re traveling solo, with friends, or family. Free admission, iconic animals like pandas, and a relaxed atmosphere make it one of the best-value attractions in the city.

We really loved this place. There was some disappointment because it was cold and rainy and a lot of the animals were not out . Plus we couldn't see the baby elephant and that made us sad. We were happy that it wasn't over crowded. We were happy to see animals with proper enclosures and being taken care of so well. Really wish there had been some hands on animals. Also, as a recent heart attack survivor- this is probably not the place to visit unless your are physically ready. There wasn't any motor carts and it is uphill the whole way and then you have to walk back down. The food trucks were all closed so there was no food either. Parking was 30 bucks. I don't know. ... I'm only giving it 5 stars because of how well the animals are cared for. The snapping turtle was the only one I could tell definitely needed a bigger space. But maybe he has a night tank and then sits in the display during the day? I dunno.

We spent hours just wandering, checking out everything, and soaking it all in without feeling rushed. It’s perfect whether you’re with kids, on a date, or just looking for something fun to do in DC. Staff were friendly, the place was clean, and the whole vibe was relaxed and enjoyable. Definitely one of those spots you can visit more than once and still have a great time. Highly recommend if you’re in the area.

They had a great and varied selection of hot cocoa, mixed drinks, and beer, s'mores for the fire pit, and miscellaneous food options all along the path, which was great. I know it's dark and the animals are sleeping, but it would have been cool to see some. Great for kids.

Cleanliness: I was impressed by how clean the entire park felt. There are plenty of snack spots and rest areas, which are lifesavers when you’re walking a lot with children. Pro-Tips: Footwear: Definitely wear your best walking shoes. The zoo is huge (163 acres!), and you’ll easily spend a full day here if you want to see everything. A true treat to the eyes! ✨🚀 The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum is truly a gem for all ages from curious toddlers to adults who love aviation and space exploration. There’s something fascinating at every corner : spacecrafts, aircrafts, aviation history, and incredible displays everywhere you look. So informative, so engaging, and beautifully presented! We reached around 3 PM on a lovely day, thinking two hours would be more than enough before closing time at 5 PM… but we were completely wrong! There is so much to explore inside. If you really want to enjoy and understand the exhibits, you definitely need more than half a day. The museum has two large floors and is absolutely vast and impossible to cover properly in just a short visit if you don’t want to miss anything. The kids got hungry, so we grabbed pizza at the cafeteria, it's convenient, but the thin slices were definitely on the expensive side. Overall, it’s a paradise for anyone who loves aircrafts, spacecrafts, and aviation history. We loved it, loved it!! ❤️✈️🚀

They use a timed-entry system, so you can't just walk in, but the effort is worth it to avoid long waits and enjoy a more organized flow inside. The Experience: The museum is filled with historic "old-fashioned" planes and space artifacts that are beautifully organized. It took us about 2 to 3 hours to fully enjoy the highlights. The information, videos, and models used to explain space and flight travel are top-notch and very engaging. Great Museum, covers every phase of humankind's love affair with flying. Great pieces of history with great interactions and great displays that do a great job describing everything and giving every piece context for it's place in history. Did not get a chance to go in the Planetarium but it sounds really amazing and will go someday when I have more time.

The Smithsonian National Air and Space museum is the best museum I've ever been to this museum shows you modern jets,old biplanes and old commercial jets and more! The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum also shows you the Apollo History also planets and gets you wondering about coming back. Definitely coming back soon this museum is so big you need to come for at least 7 hours to see all of it or come 2 days in a row for 3-4 hours depending on how fast you are moving.

Be prepared for big crowds, as there are always a lot of tourists taking pictures of the incredible views across the Reflecting Pool toward the Washington Monument. Even with the crowds, the scale of the architecture and the inscriptions of his famous speeches on the walls make it a must-see. Highly recommend visiting at least once!

An incredible historical memorial to visit. Stairs are easy to navigate, plenty of space to take photographs amongst other tourists. While impressive and more powerful to see in person, there is a respectful quietness when visiting. BEWARE marble floors are very slippery when wet/damp/moist. Good wheelchair ramp access. The dinosaur hall is especially impressive, and seeing the Hope Diamond in person is unforgettable. Every section of the museum is thoughtfully designed and full of amazing details. What makes it even better is that admission is free, making it perfect for families, tourists, or anyone who loves learning. You can easily spend hours exploring everything from ocean life to ancient civilizations. It’s fun, inspiring, and truly one of the best museums in Washington, DC. Highly recommend visiting at least once — you won’t regret it!

I loved going! I really can’t even pick my favorite parts. The ocean, mammals, and evolution was AMAZING! They have multiple gift shops with different items for all ages. Due to the museum being so big we didn’t feel crowded. The cafe was also a decent size with good options. The butterfly exhibit was closed so that was a bummer but all good! I would suggest adding more water bubblers causeeeee CHILLLLLDDDDD that was a lot of walking! They also had a lot of exhibits that allowed sitting which came in clutch because the DAWGS WERE BARKING😭 We would come back!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Our visit to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History was truly amazing! The best part? It’s completely free and there was no waiting time at the entrance when we arrived. The museum is absolutely huge. It took us nearly 4 hours to see everything, and even then, we felt like we were just scratching the surface of their massive collection. There are definitely a lot of tourists around, but the building is spacious enough that you can still enjoy the exhibits. Highlights from our visit (as seen in the photos): The Rotunda: You can't miss "Henry," the massive African Bush Elephant that greets you right at the entrance—it’s a perfect photo spot! Gems & Minerals: The Hope Diamond is a must-see, but the entire hall is filled with stunning, colorful crystals and glowing minerals (the neon green and orange displays were a personal favorite). Fossils & Evolution: The human evolution exhibit with the collection of skulls is incredibly well-done and thought-provoking. Tip: Wear very comfortable shoes! You will be doing a lot of walking over those 4 hours.

This museum is full of information. It is a lot to see, you might spend the whole day if you bring little ones. The building itself looks amazing from the outside. There are two entrances the main one where you see the stairs, behind the building there is also an entrance. There is only street parking, you might spend time looking for a parking spot. I’m pretty sure there are parking garage. I did not look into that, because we were lucky to find a parking spot close to the museum. Bring comfy shoes to walk as there is a lot to see.

The National Mall was a fantastic experience, and getting to see it at night made it even more memorable. The National Mall monuments were illuminated, and standing on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial while looking off at the Reflecting Pool to see the Washington Monument was breathtaking! Full of history!

This is America and it's the greatest place I've probaly ever be in my life. Try the food trucks try every museum try the metro also while in the metro look for a guy that's Japanese with a little shop he'll hook you up. Walk around and just look at America in your eyes.

The National Mall is a large open park area in Washington, D.C. with iconic monuments and museums. It stretches from the United States Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial. Free Smithsonian museums to go for. Definitely worth going and checking them. We have been to National Air and Space Museum and I can't praise enough for what we saw. A must watch and worth going. It has great collections of aircraft and space craft, very educational to kids.

Clean atmosphere and scenic. The parking isn't difficult, but you will do a lot of walking to get to one point to another. This was actually my second visit, because I couldn't see everything the first time around. It's a two day visit if you want to truly see everything the National Mall offers. I'd call it an American gem that offers a plethora of historical insight.

I love DC. It's even better since Trump had it cleaned up. We live 40 minutes away. In the last 4 months, we have been downtown at least 6 times. Always something going on. And, we feel safe!
